Are you planning your next event? Have you considered making it a Mexican fiesta theme party? It’s a great way to give a gathering just the right atmosphere for your loved ones to come together to celebrate life’s special moments.

What Is A Fiesta?

The dictionary’s definition of a fiesta is “an event marked by celebration and festivities”. If you’re planning to commemorate a milestone or achievement, a fiesta theme’s bold colors and cantina atmosphere can make your guests cheer Ole!

It’s the type of celebratory bash that your guests will talk about for years to come. And any special occasion you can think of is fit to be a fiesta.

What Events Work Best With A Fiesta Theme?

A Mexican fiesta theme party is colorful, creative, and insanely easy to plan and execute. With bold primary colors and kitschy decorative items, it’s a foolproof party theme.

Take the following examples. With just the right food, music and decorations, these special events can be easily transformed into an authentic traditional Mexican fiesta:

  • Bachelorette parties
  • Graduation parties
  • Wedding receptions
  • Quinceañeras
  • Birthday parties
  • Bridal showers
  • Family reunions
  • Class reunions

Fiesta Party Ideas Your Guests Will Love

As previously mentioned, there is no wrong way to do a fiesta theme. Here’s our essential party decorations. You really only need several of these items to achieve the funky cantina vibe you’re aiming for. These party suggestions could give that final festive touch your guests need to have a magical time at your fiesta.

Piñata

Everyone loves a piñata! These are the colorful papier-mâché animal figures stuffed with candy and tiny toy. The pinnacle of many fiestas occurs when the piñata is suspended and guests wait for their turn to take their best swing at it– but only after putting on a blindfold and spun around in a tight circle. When someone finally cracks the piñata open, all its contents will spill to the ground, causing a cheerful mayhem as everyone scrambles to get their piece of the jackpot!

You can find a piñata to purchase at just about any party store or grocery store in the party aisle. They come in many traditional and funky forms and are surprisingly affordable for the fun and excitement it contains

Light Up The Entryway

Pull those christmas lights out of your storage and string them up where you see fit. You can also take it a step further by searching for colored tea lanterns or setting up candelarias along your walkway. This soft and twinkling illumination can really set the jovial atmosphere of every fiesta.

Table Decor

Think about what you can bring to the table for your fiesta theme party. Pick out a bright table runner to lay down, then scrounge up some simple but festive table decorations. You could pick up several small pots of succulents and cacti, several mariachis, and empty corona bottles repurposed to serve as a vase for flowers (real or fake). You can complete your colorful tabletop by choosing brightly colored dishes, silverware, and chairs to really dazzle your guests.

Hang Up Bold Fabrics And Papel Picado

The colors of a fiesta are bold, and we do mean bold. Look for the multicolored perforated paper, also known as papel picado, that you can hang from the ceiling. Aside from the perforated paper, you could hang paper lanterns with colored ribbons, tulle puff balls, or banners. Essentially, you could use anything that is both bright and able to be hung up for decoration or display.

Have Authentic Mexican Food Catered

If you’re aiming to have an authentic Mexican Fiesta theme party, why not go the whole nine yards and have a restaurant do the catering. There is nothing better than having authentic Mexican or Tex-Mex dishes catered at a fiesta. It’s a worthwhile investment in terms of time and enjoyment. The less time spent steaming tamales, rolling tortillas, and shredding meat is more time spent enjoying the celebration you’ve planned.
