avocado health benefit vitamins

Avocados are amazing sources of nutrition. They pack a powerful punch in terms of vitamins, minerals, and fiber; along with many other nutrients. Their rich and buttery flavor is a delightful addition to a meal–or a treat all on its own!

This green super-food is fruit of the avocado tree (Persea americana), with the most popular variety being the Haas avocado. The trees are self-pollinating, and the very first Haas avocado tree is actually still alive and producing fruit! With its origin likely in South America, the tree thrives in tropical climates. Currently, Mexico is the leading producer of these wonderful fruits.

So why eat avocados? Avocados have the wonderful benefit of providing minerals and vitamins that strengthen the immune system and promote overall good health. The nutritional value of this green delicacy is part of what makes it so great to have as part of your diet.

Lots of Vitamins

You’ll find copious amounts of the vitamins A, C, E, K, and B6 in avocados. Not only are they loaded with these different vitamins, when eaten with other foods, avocados can boost the absorption of nutrients by 400%.

Avocados are high in fiber and monounsaturated fats. The monounsaturated fats are what keep you feeling full for longer. This means that while the caloric count of avocados is somewhat high (320 on average), you’re less likely to snack for a while after having one.

Avocados are incredibly good for your heart. The fats found in avocados are wonderful for giving the body what it needs to protect against cardiovascular disease. Oleic acid is the primary fatty acid found in avocados and it has been found to give a big boost to heart health.
